Affymetrix and Medical Prognosis Institute (MPI) Collaborate to Develop Cancer Treatment Products

(3.10.2008) MPI announced that they have signed a Powered by Affymetrix™ license agreement. With this agreement, MPI gains access to Affymetrix world leading microarray GeneChip DNA technology, a technology platform to analyze complex genetic data.

MPI develops proficient but cheap DNA chips enabling more efficient treatment by predicting individualized drug sensitivity of cancer patients. The partnership with Affymetrix enables MPI to develop robust tools with potentially broad clinical functions that can be distributed worldwide through existing distribution channels.

"We are confident of being able to obtain regulatory clearance and achieve commercialization within one to two years." said Jesper Drejet, president and CEO of the MPI.

MPI represent medical elite research in personalized prediction and prognostic products towards cancer treatment. Affymetrix is the market leading provider of DNA chip technology (Microarray) since the late 1980s.

"MPI's cancer prognosis tools have the potential to customize treatment schemes, revolutionize the control of this disease and the chances of recovery," said Kevin King, president of Affymetrix. "Agreements such as this continue to validate the need for microarrays for complex signatures for reproducibility and accuracy. "

US based Affymetrix represents approximately 1,100 employees worldwide, and a little less than 2000 microarray systems in global circulation. The Affymetrix technology has lead to more than 13,000 peer-reviewed papers have been published using this technology.
