Damptech
Damptech A/S has invented a low-cost, high-efficiency, simple solution to protect buildings and other facilities from damage caused by seismic activity, and for suppressing wind and machine-induced vibrations.
The novel friction damper device (FDD) consists of 3 steel plates rotating against each other in opposite directions. The steel plates are separated by 2 shims of friction pad material producing friction with the steel plates.
These devices can be used in both new and existing structures to upgrade them in order to fulfill the requirements of the new design codes. These unique circumstances make FDD attractive for professionals ranging from architects to engineers, as well as construction and insurance companies.
Damptech A/S is already on the market with the FDD products, and in 2006 they gained a worldwide patent on their product. At present, the company has established representation in Turkey, and is currently in contact with major Japanese contractors.
The company was founded by civil engineer Imad Mualla who, in 2000, completed a PhD program at DTU developing the FDD standards.
