Stevia ApS develops a new, significantly improved therapy for type 2 diabetes- STX03 (isosteviol). Type 2 diabetes is a globally and rapidly growing life style related epidemic trough out all societies.

STX03 (isosteviol) represents the first candidate in a completely new drug class - representing a "new chemical entity". The drug is made by chemical modification of molecules from Stevia Rebaudiana Bertoni (the Stevia plant). It has a very favorable and well known toxicological profile. It improves glycaemic control, ameliorate dyslipidaemia, and lower arterial blood pressure.

STX03 protects and promotes the ability of the pancreas to respond to elevated levels of sugar in the bloodstream, without risk for the dangerous hypoglycemia. In addition the drug candidate brings improvement of insulin sensitivity of the body (reduced insulin resistance), e.g. that the body sensitivity towards its own produced insulin is improved.

STX03 is a small and stable molecule, which is suited for oral administration in a tablet or pill. Other effective substances, such as insulin and GLP1, are administered by injection. STX03 causes no weight gain, and has no other known side effects.

STX03 (isosteviol) is the result of years of dedicated research at the Aarhus University Hospital by an internationally acclaimed research team lead by Professor, Chief Physician and consultant, Dr. Med. Kjeld Hermansen.
